Search Engine Registration

search engine engine optimizationWebsite promotion means gaining a presence on the Internet. It is important to manually register with the major search engines Yahoo, Google, MSN and in Open Directory and others.

Some search engines come with a price tag and there are those which are free but these registrations require time with emphasis on accurate information and details. Utilizing the information we gained from our website consultation, we use the keywords/keyword phrases relevant to your company and industry itself, use your own company descriptions or we will copyright for you, and ensure that your visitors "land" on the correct page. Mistakes can be costly because the search engine warns they will not list your company should their guidelines not be followed.

Search Engine Position Ranking

Following on the principle of "What gets measured gets done"!, discussed under the heading of Web Analytics, search engine position ranking refers to measuring visibility on the net for those keywords and keyword phrases that are important for a company's Internet marketing success.

Using very sophisticated software, we scan the major Search Engines (about 20) to see how and where each key word or key phrase shows links to a particular web site. If one of the company's key phrases is "Silicone Oil", we want to see on which Search Engine results page and which position on that page (#1,2,3 etc) the company's website is listed and (of course) linked to that keyword.

Each position reported, on each search engine, and for each key word/phrase, is given a numerical value and the total of these is expressed in the summary (top of first page) as an overall "Visibility Score" and a visibility percentage. That visibility score should be constantly increasing. (see screen shot & link below)

website analyticsThis score, indicating "organic positions" for a website under certain keywords can be worth many thousands of dollars in free advertising and it is, therefore, well worth the effort in most cases to actively pursue these positions if there is any realistic chance of achieving them. Building and structuring a company's site to achieve high rankings (positions) by the Search Engines is the whole point of Search Engine Optimization.

All of our We-Drive-It programs include a quarterly search engine position ranking report. We do this to measure the success of our Search Engine Optimization efforts. Our consulting program, U-Drive-It, recommends the utilization of this type of software for the same purpose.

Database Management

Database ManagementMany companies are turning to the file servers, database management software and the Internet to make all kinds of information and reports instantly available to their staff, their clients, and even prospects. From password protected databases, a company’s clients can access their past and current invoices, payments, current balances, order status, pricing, cost estimating, without involving precious employee time to process the request, do the research, and generate a report. It not only saves time and money but delivers world class customer service!
Your designated staff can generate sales reports, cost estimates, production schedules, even measure current project costs against gross margin targets and a host of other specialized reports that pull information from many sources and deliver them in predetermined, easy to use and understand formats.

Prospective clients can retrieve for themselves, not only product information, specs, drawings, etc but can get a good sampling of what will be available to them as clients of your company from a collection of sample reports.

Is database management expensive? Difficult? The costs for both hardware and software have been coming down so well that even small companies can now make very cost effective use of these emerging technologies. A variety of software products for many standard types of database management are readily available at good prices, ditto for servers, and the Internet is becoming accessible almost anywhere.

Let us know what you would like to do. We will research a database management solution, make a proposal to implement it, and train your staff in its ongoing maintenance. Email us with some details of what you want to do and we will have a proposal on your desk within a week. You are always welcome to call us toll free at 1.800 692.5001.

Pay-Per-Click (PPC) Management

Pay-Per-ClickIncreasing targeted web-traffic will often include a well managed PPC management program which can accomplish several things in an Internet marketing program.

  1. Achieve an effective, keyword-targeted visibility very quickly.
  2. Help the longer term organic positioning by having several places on the Search Engines that are pointing (linked) to your website.
  3. As organic positioning improves, PPC can fill in the areas where organic visibility has yet to be achieved.
  4. Where organic positioning has been achieved, PPC can deliver more of “the real estate” on the Search Engine results pages.
  5. Give you better control over your different advertising messages.

Managing a PPC program can be very time consuming and attention to detail and timing is extremely important to control costs and insure a high ROI. All of our ppc management programs are monitored daily to keep them in budget with optimum conversion rates (rate of actual responses per daily visitor group).

A thorough keyword analysis is essential for any effective PPC management program. Many times a PPC program will be managing and bidding on hundreds of keywords and key-phrases over more that 20 search engines and hundreds of related content websites.

The goal of a well managed PPC program is not increasing web traffic! It is to increase the number of conversions from web traffic i.e. visitors becoming buyers or active prospects. We do increase web traffic but it is targeted, keyword-driven traffic. We judge the effectiveness of any program on the number of actual conversions.

High traffic + Low Conversion rate = Lousy Program
High traffic + Good Conversion rate = Good Program

Copywriting

copywritingCopywriting for the web is becoming more specialized because of the importance of headlines, cautious keyword density, text links, text positioning, and the amount of text content to achieving higher overall page rankings determined by the Search Engines.

We have already mentioned (SEO Search Engine Optimization) the algorithmic formulas that Search Engines use to determine mechanically what pages are most relevant to the keyword or phrase used by a searcher. Obviously, a search engine scanning and spidering billions of pages cannot make universally accurate judgments but they get very sophisticated in the judgments they do make. That is why search today is as good as it is.

In our copywriting efforts we take whatever written and photographic content materials the client has, including the existing site itself, brochures, publications, advertisements, etc. and, with the full consultation and approval of the client, assemble these in a format that will make them more accessible to and acceptable to the Search Engine’s algorithmic formulas.

The complaint that we hear initially from clients and prospective clients is who are we writing for, our clients or the Search Engines?

Understandable of course, but there is really not much of a conflict. In fact, following the Search Engine guidelines can make your site more user friendly and more useful to your website visitors thus bringing them closer to making that vital next step of sending an order, an RFQ, an e-mail, or making that first telephone call.

The reason for this is fairly simple. The Search Engine wants to make their user happy by delivering a result page full of highly relevant and rich content that is laid out in such a way that it is clear what the site is about and is easy to navigate for more related information. That is what a good website should do even if the Search Engines and their machines never existed.

Press Releases

Press ReleaseMany smaller companies do not fully utilize the press release as a means of promoting their site, their products, services, special recognitions, memberships, trade show attendance, new equipment and procedures, new products, etc.

Press releases can add keyword content to your site thereby contributing to higher Search Engine ranking, get picked up by the Search Engines individually and bring additional visitors to your site. Press releases can also add to your company's credibility with prospects, and depending on the specific content, be a great morale booster with your employees.

We suggest topics for our clients, write the releases (if desired), post them on the site (and archive previous ones), and also distribute them to various RSS news feeds.

Once companies get used to doing this, and see its benefits, they usually come up with ten or twelve a year.

PDF Technology

Adobe PDFPDF technology (Portable Document Format) is almost universally used today to present various forms of web content allowing for more secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms. PDF files do not contain code from a specific software application, from the hardware used to create the file or from a particular operating system thus ensuring that its format will be universal from source to its final destination.

Today, you can create a very simple file in PDF or a very complex one which includes a variety of fonts, colors, graphics, and images.

Usually the decision to present certain content in HTML or PDF is fairly straightforward. If the content is going to be printed out from a web site by a user, such as a form, a brochure, white paper, spec sheet, etc., it is usually best using PDF technology.

We routinely create PDFs where advisable, and also translate existing PDFs back to HTML when called for. We separate PDF documents into unique documents and also "Optimize" PDF content to make them more accessible to the Search Engines.

RSS/XML feeds and Blogs

RSS news feedA couple of significant ways to add interest and additional content to your site are the RSS Feed (usually news from your industry) and the company blog. These both add related content, are updated automatically, and can contribute to your site's ranking with the Search Engines.

The RSS feed usually brings the top five or ten news items from your industry and is located on the home page or via a Nav bar link to a separate page where it is located. Many RSS feeds are available free of charge but some require a subscription fee.

We research appropriate RSS Feed options for our clients and, after a selection is made, we set them up on their site

A company sponsored and hosted (on your site) blog is a great way to maintain a continuing dialogue with employees, clients, and prospects. It can either be an open forum, or a password protected area of your site, and sometimes it can have both elements by keeping password protected areas for employees and clients, perhaps, while maintaining an open forum for website visitors/prospects).

A blog usually has different categories to keep conversations focused on a person's area of interest, thus a manufacturer might have a category for a group of related products or application areas for specialized products. For example a Coupling manufacturer might have categories related to various applications of their products like ship propeller shafts, Hydroelectric Turbine. Generators, etc.

We help companies set up appropriate Blogs on their site, give them the tools to moderate the discussions, and provide ongoing technical support.

The technology is very well established and problems are few.
